Growth and Transitions: Pandemic Perspectives

Hi All,

It's been a long while. Here we are, still living in a Pandemic, watching and waiting for the virus weaken and trying to live normal lives while keeping ourselves and families safe.

During this time, I have been working hard at creating paintings for an art project. This project has been facilitated by the Creative Sector here on Cape Breton Island/Unama'ki. Partners making this project possible include Cape Breton Partnership, Cape Breton Centre for Craft & Design and Nova Scotia Works. Since starting this project in late summer, I have been sharing progress pics as I work on my paintings. These works will have titles like Isolate, Bubble, Test, Protest, etc. I am using inspiration from cheerleaders, acrobats, the news, social media and heraldry as represented in coats of arms. A strange medley but hopefully it will all make sense as I complete the work. In the end, I hope to have a small body of work that will be shown in an exhibit with my fellow Legacy Project Artists Juliana Scherzer, Josie Robinson, Susan Paddon, Vicki Piersig and Alison Uhma in May of 2021.

Here are some pics of what I'm up to. Follow me @teenamariefanceyartist and @capebretonpartnership on Instagram for more info about the project and its artists.

Stay tuned. There will be more pics and information about the Legacy Project and its exhibition "Growth & Transitions" in the coming months.
